Greater Family Health has been awarded Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part C Outpatient Early Intervention Services Program funding, beginning May 1, 2022, in order to expand its existing array of services offered to low-income, uninsured, and underserved people with HIV.
The $310,829 in annual funding from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), for each of the next 3 years, supports Greater Family Health’s current comprehensive primary health care and support services for the target population. The funding allows Greater Family Health to further identify, support and care for those with HIV residing in DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, McHenry, and the northwest portion of Cook counties in Illinois.
Greater Family Health applied for the funding in June 2021 and was informed of the award on March 25, 2022.
“Over the last almost 2 years, Greater Family Health has substantially expanded its outreach, education, testing, case management and care provision for those at greatest risk for HIV/AIDS, as well as those diagnosed with HIV” indicated Bob Tanner, President and CEO of Greater Family Health. “Our patients indicate very high satisfaction with these services, offered by our Team of caring, dedicated and skilled professionals, including our practitioners. We’re thrilled that HRSA recognizes our value, capabilities and successes, awarding Greater Family Health this funding, which nicely compliments our existing funding and services” he continued.
Commonly known as Ryan White Part C funding, the resources compliment Greater Family Health’s existing Part A- & Part B- funded medical Case Management Team, as well as the outreach, education and testing already provided by Greater Family Health.
Part C funding from HRSA marks the 4th public funder to support Greater Family Health as it further addresses the needs of those at greatest risk for HIV/AIDS, with an emphasis on people of color, young men who have sex with men, and high-risk heterosexuals, as these groups represent the primary demographic of people with HIV in the service area.
As a result of this funding, Greater Family Health will further its provision of counseling for individuals with respect to HIV, targeted HIV testing, periodic medical evaluations of individuals with HIV and other clinical and diagnostic services regarding HIV, therapeutic measures for preventing and treating the deterioration of the immune system and for preventing and treating conditions arising from HIV, and referrals for people with HIV to appropriate providers of health and support services.
Greater Family Health is the area’s premier Federally Qualified Health Center, providing the full range of quality, affordably priced, fully-integrated primary care services to almost 59,000 area residents by over 178,000 medical, behavioral health and dental appointments annually.
Greater Family Health currently offers health care services out of 10 locations in DeKalb, Elgin, Hanover Park, Palatine, McHenry, Streamwood, Sycamore and Wheeling. Services include family and adult medicine, infectious disease, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, dental care, behavioral health care, including counseling, psychiatry and substance use disorder treatment, and an array of supportive services.
