At Greater Family Health, our commitment extends beyond medical care to encompass the holistic well-being of our patients. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Gail Borden Public Library’s TechKnow Mobile, an initiative dedicated to bridging the digital and technological gaps in Elgin and neighboring communities.
The TechKnow Mobile, operated by Gail Borden Public Library, is a comprehensive technical support vehicle. It offers circulating Wi-Fi hotspots, Google Chromebooks, print books, DVDs, and onboard library staff who can provide assistance and guidance.
Throughout this collaboration, Gail Borden Public Library and Greater Family Health have been inspired by the numerous heartwarming success stories shared by patients and their family members who have engaged with TechKnow Mobile. Please take a moment to read a few of these remarkable accounts:
- During one of TechKnow Mobile’s initial visits, our staff encountered a young man facing adversity, actively seeking employment to meet his financial and healthcare needs. Equipped with a borrowed Chromebook and hotspot, he successfully applied for jobs and effectively communicated with potential employers. A few weeks later, he returned to TechKnow Mobile, excitedly informing our team that he had secured a new job thanks to the resources provided. He expressed his intention to continue utilizing the TechKnow Mobile and update us on his employment journey.
- A father accompanied his daughter to TechKnow Mobile, where he obtained his first library card. Taking home a Chromebook and hotspot, he aimed to provide internet access for his family, notably to support his daughter’s academic growth and exposure.
- An elderly gentleman, recognizing the increasing need for digital proficiency in his medical interactions, approached the TechKnow Mobile with eagerness to learn about technology. Motivated by frequent doctor visits, he realized that online completing forms and appointment scheduling had become essential. He received a Chromebook and hotspot to embark on his technological journey, envisioning a bonding experience with his grandson.
- A young mother, delighted to discover the TechKnow Mobile at Greater Family Health, eagerly sought internet access, laptops, and database information for her child’s educational needs. Expressing interest in teaching her child and husband sign language due to her hearing loss, she related to local sign language courses by the Gail Borden Public Library team.
- Like the first story, another young man found himself in challenging circumstances, desperately seeking employment and healthcare benefits. He secured a new job using a Chromebook and hotspot borrowed from TechKnow Mobile. He clarified that he would continue to rely on Mobile’s resources, sharing updates on his employment progress.
- A father introduced his daughter to TechKnow Mobile and obtained his first library card. Equipped with a Chromebook and hotspot, they now enjoy internet access at home, nurturing their daughter’s love for reading and expanding her literary horizons.
The TechKnow Mobile will be stationed at Greater Family Health’s Parking Lot C, adjacent to their Health Center at 373 Summit Street, on the following dates and times:

- August: Wednesday, Aug 9th 2:00-3:30 pm & Friday, Aug 25th 9:30-11:00 am
