According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the most effective treatment for substance use disorders include a combination of medication and individualized treatment programming. At Greater Family Health, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) offers patients struggling with opioid dependence a chance to begin their journey in recovery by combining medication with individualized therapy. Integration within the Health Center allows patients access to medical, psychiatry and dental services as well, all within one organization.
With the ever-changing approaches to substance use disorder treatment, Greater Family Health continues to evolve to meet the needs of the communities we serve. We are excited to begin offering the services of a Peer Recovery Support Specialist to our patients in the MAT program. The role of the Peer Recovery Support Specialist is to offer patients a partner in their journey and advocate for their needs, giving patients a voice when their own may have felt silenced.
Using a harm reduction approach to recovery, the MAT program meets the client where they are in their journey and allows for reflection of how they have gotten to this point in their lives. The program is available to any adult 18 years and older regardless of their ability to pay. Uninsured patients qualify for Greater Family Health’s Sliding Fee Discount as well as the 340B prescription discount program to help pay for their medication. The MAT program is accepting new patients by appointment only at Greater Family Health in Sycamore, Greater Family Health in Wheeling, Greater Family Health in Hanover Park and Greater Family Health in Elgin.
