Happy Anniversary Greater Family Health!
Today marks 20 years of providing quality, affordable primary health care – and the many accomplishments Greater Family Health has achieved over the years.
Yesterday, Thursday, July 15th, 2021, we had the honor of celebrating our anniversary with our fine staff and many elected officials, community leaders and partners including State Senator Christina Castro, State Representative Suzanne Ness, Hanover Park Village President Rodney Craig, Streamwood Village Manager Sharon Caddigan, Mike Maginn from Illinois Primary Health Care Association, and Elgin Councilman John Steffen.
Bob Tanner, Greater Family Health’s President/CEO, welcomed guests and shared that, after 20 years, Greater Family Health now “operates 9 Health Centers in 5 counties providing care to just under 61,000 people annually, via almost 168,000 visits in 2020. Last year, Greater Family Health took care of people from over 550 zip codes and marked the 20th consecutive year of growth in terms of volume of patients cared for.”
Mr. Tanner went on to acknowledge Greater Family Health’s “mother and father”, Ed Hunter and Donna Anderson, who shared their experiences in the early days and the establishment of the organization. Ed and Donna have been involved with the organization’s mission since its inception and were instrumental in creating Greater Family Health. “Most of this started as a result of a survey done in 1995 by a group called Community 2000 Task Force” shared Donna. “The results of that survey were that there was a great need for primary health care throughout the area.” Ed also shared that Greater Family Health started as a free clinic in the 1980s in the basement of St. Joseph Church in downtown Elgin, with support from both local hospitals. Furthermore, Mr. Tanner acknowledged Greater Family Health’s Board members and volunteers, including Libby Hoeft, Paul Bednar, Art and Nancy Schueneman, and Jose Garcia. We had the pleasure of hearing from Mayor Craig, who read a proclamation for Greater Family Health and congratulated the organization on its 20-year anniversary. Suzanne Ness, State Representative for District 66, also shared a few words with guests and congratulated and expressed her support for Greater Family Health. Lastly, our Board Chair Jose Garcia shared how the organization maintains a standard of quality unmatched in the area and noted how proud he is being a part of Greater Family Health!
Ed Hunter, the father of Greater Family Health, recognized Bob Tanner for his vision and dedication to the organization for over 15 years. The event concluded with a heartfelt thank you by Mr. Tanner to the Board of Directors and the most-valued professionals of Greater Family Health, noting the organization’s commitment to excellence, long-standing clinical excellence and its many resultant accomplishments and awards.
Here’s to another 20 years!
