The Five Rights of Safe Medication Administration

Safe Medication Administration

Your safety is at the heart of everything we do at Greater Family Health. When it comes to medications, we follow detailed procedures to make sure every patient receives the right medication, at the right dose, and in the right way.

To prevent mix‑ups, certain medications that look or sound like others are specially labeled. High‑alert medications are also marked so that staff take extra care when preparing or administering them.

Before giving any medication, medical assistants and certified nursing assistants follow the “Five Rights” of safe medication administration:

  • The right patient
  • The right medication
  • The right dose
  • The right route
  • The right time

Staff carefully check medication labels, review allergies, and verify orders before giving anything to a patient. Many medications also require double checks or additional documentation to ensure accuracy.

All of these steps work together to reduce the risk of medication errors and ensure safe, reliable care. Our goal is to give patients confidence that every medication administered in our health centers is handled with the highest level of attention and professionalism.
