Pregnancy and PCOS

You may remember a few months ago, we discussed Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), which is an imbalance of the reproductive hormones that can cause infertility in some women. After managing their symptoms on their own or with the help of their doctor, many women with PCOS do become pregnant. However, this comes with its own set of concerns and possible complications.

It’s not to say that all women with PCOS will experience these complications, but according to the Office on Women’s Health, women with PCOS are more at risk for the following complications:

For this reason, it is important that you talk to your Ob/Gyn before you plan to conceive. Your doctor will likely suggest reaching a healthy weight and a healthy blood sugar level before you become pregnant. Start your prenatal care early and talk to your doctor about things you can do to prevent complications in your pregnancy.
