Cynthia was scheduled for a routine women’s wellness exam with her primary care provider. During the visit, her physician asked whether she had completed the screening mammogram that was ordered earlier in 2025. Cynthia explained that she kept forgetting to schedule the appointment. She also shared that, although she received a list of imaging centers offering discounted rates for Greater Family Health patients, the cost was still too high for her to commit to scheduling the test. Her physician emphasized the importance of preventive care and early-detection screenings, noting that these measures can be lifesaving.
During the visit, Cynthia’s physician made her aware that Greater Family Health has partnered with Ascension Healthcare and the New Roseland Community Hospital to provide screening mammograms to Greater Family Health patients via a mobile unit. Cynthia was very excited about the opportunity to finally get a mammogram completed but was hesitant because she was uninsured.
As she finalized her visit, the receptionist assisted Cynthia in scheduling a screening mammogram with the mobile mammogram unit. Cynthia was reassured that there would be no cost for the mobile mammogram; she would simply need to apply for the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) on the day of the event. It was also explained that she would need to provide proof of Illinois residency at the time of her appointment.
With the support of her care team and the availability of the mobile mammogram unit, Cynthia was able to overcome both hesitation and financial barriers to care. She left her visit feeling confident and supported, knowing she had taken an important step toward better health.
